The history of the town goes back about 235 years ago. At the very beginning of its existence, it was the village Morsch, founded in the XVI century. Then September 16, 1779 by decree of Catherine II behalf Morsch became the center of the grain trade in the Tsne and became into a city Morshansk. Until the mid-1870s, the county town of Morshansk considered in the Tambov province's largest commercial and industrial center. In the XIX century commercial importance of the city fell in connection with the construction of railways. During the Great Patriotic War Morshansk was one of the main centers mahorochnogo and tobacco production.

The city is very beautiful and multicultural, too.
